The Business School Guyana

The Business School was founded in 1975 by Mrs. Erma Bovell. Mrs. Bovell, a deep religious individual, started the school to provide secretarial training for young girls from low income households. These girls for various reasons, were unable to get an education in the public school system in Guyana. This training provided these girls an opportunities to gain employment, and to play a positive role in their curriculum.

The Business School is located in the heart of Georgetown, Guyana at 43 Brickdam. A large, modern building contains facilities for teaching Computer Science, Drama, Arts, Business and Accounting, Science and Corporate Training Programmes.

Over the years the college has grown and now offers a wide range of courses within a number of faculties. The Business School admits students of any race, colour, nation or ethnic origin. All students have equal access to the privileges, programmes and activities of the school.

The Business School – High School was established in September 1997. At that time only forms 3 to 5 were available and students were prepared to write the CXC Business Subjects. In September 2000 the High School admitted students for forms 1 to 5. The curriculum now includes Science, the Humanities, Information Technology and Business.

Programs

The college offers a wide range of programmes within the four faculties of Business, Secretarial Science, Information Technology and Management Training. The various courses are offered on a part-time and full-time basis.

Full time programmes cater for students enrolling from all classes of the society. The College does not discriminate in its enrollment policy, but our primary focus is to provide a quality of education for students. The school offers a full-time Secretarial Training Programme for students who are desirous of pursuing a secretarial career or seeking employment as general clerks. The subjects offered on this programme are English, Mathematics, Typewriting, Shorthand, Office Procedures and Information Technology.

Part time programmes are designed for individuals upgrading their certification, individuals embarking on a career in Business and Accountancy, Information Technology or Secretarial Science.

The Business School is recognized internationally as a center for learning, and the teaching of democratic principles and values. The staff of The Business School are highly qualified, experienced and trained, and are regarded as serious educators.
